THE PLOT:

Cal Meacham is recruited into a research project like nothing he's seen before. It starts out with a package delivery, that is a futuristic communication devise where he meets Exeter. Taken on a self flying plane to a remote cabin deep with a secluded place he meets Exeter in person.

But the research they are working on makes Carl wonder what Exeter is really up to and where he really comes from. He learns that Exeter is an alien who kidnaps them and kills the rest of the research team. He tells a desperate story of a war on his home planet and if their shielding is restored soon, it will spell the end of his world.

ZEDD'S OPINION:

Even now I am a bit of a fan of this classic movie from 1955. I got to admit I have issues with it. One, the Metaluna people are big jerks except for Exeter. Two, the movie is kind of slow through most of it. Lastly, I wish they didn't go with the Mutant name, they did that in INVADERS FROM MARS. I was hoping for more of a original name. The monsters trapped in the Metaluna force field still alive was kind of cheap. But the ship effects are cool, the acting is first rate and I love the Mutant design even if I don't care for it's name. All and all, a classic worth watching. 7 STARS.

VOLTRON'S OPINION:

True, everything Zedd said is true. However, the acting in this classic makes up for the flaws in it. Without giving it away I was totally disappointed with how it ended. I think they went out of their way to get to that climax and I didn't think it was right. If you've seen it, then you know what I mean. But it's minor and I give it 9 STARS

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):

+ COOL EFFECTS (For the most part the effects are cool.)
+ MAKE UP EFFECTS (Exeter and the other Metaluna people's make up effects were perfect.)
+ STORY (For the most part the story works.)
+ CHARACTERS (Most of the characters were likable.)
+ MUTANT DESIGN (The mutant is a really cool mutant monster.)

ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):

- SLOW (It really dragged on in places.)
- METALUNA JERKS (Except for Exeter, the other Metalunians were real jerks.)
- MUTANT NAME (They did that bit in another movie.)
- CLIMAX (Without giving it away, VOLTRON felt the ending was a disappointment.)

...AND FINALLY...

- METALUNA SHIED MONSTERS (They were just normal lizards and animals. That was cheesy.)
